For a long time, it was a secret that Tupac and Madonna were a couple. The world first found out when Madonna told Howard Stern in 2015 that the two had dated. But it turns out that rapper Snoop Dogg also knew. He found out when the two brought him a big bag of weed before Snoop’s Saturday Night Live performance.

On last Friday’s episode of The Howard Stern Show, Snoop Dogg told the story, which he said he’d kept secret all this time. In the segment, which you can hear below, Snoop explains that this took place before Tupac had signed to Death Row records. He met Tupac at the wrap party for the 1993 film Poetic Justice, which Tupac starred in. The two immediately bonded.

A year later, Snoop Dogg was the musical guest on the March 19, 1994 episode of Saturday Night Live. Tupac called Snoop to say hi and Snoop complained that he hadn’t been able to find any weed. Snoop said, “He was like, ‘Don’t worry about a motherfucking thing… I’m coming to SNL, I’ll be there in a minute.’”

Sure enough, Tupac came through. “So, he pulls up. But guess who he pulls up with? … He shows up with Madonna, man! And he comes in, he’s got a big bag of [marijuana], and he tells her, ‘Have a seat.’ She looks at me, I look at her, and I say, ‘Oh wow, that’s Madonna! Back to you, let me get that dope up off you.’”

Snoop said he knew that Tupac and Madonna had just put an, ahem, intimate night on pause to bring the weed, so the two didn’t stay long. But to hear him tell it, it was a memorable night for Snoop, and we can only assume that Tupac’s gift made Snoop’s performances of “Gin and Juice” and “Lodi Dodi” that much better.
