David Eason, a star of MTV’s reality series Teen Mom 2 has been fired from the show after he posted homophobic messages on his now-deleted Twitter account.

Following the school shooting in Parkland, Florida, Eason reportedly shared a new story about allowing school visitors with concealed carry permits to bring firearms onto campus, commenting, “It only makes sense to protect our kids the proper way… the only way we know how.”

When another Twitter user criticized Eason for suggesting that kids be exposed to “unnecessary weaponry,” Eason responded, “And just what makes you think you have the right to tell me how to be a parent? Because you think you know me? Lmao why don’t you go tell the homo and transgender parents to start teaching their kids better morals? Oh I forgot that’s supposed to be normal.”

Here are screenshots of David Eason’s queerphobic tweets:

Another Twitter user responded to his Tweet about “homo and transgender parents” asking, “Who are you to say what’s normal or what’s moral? Are you going to teach your children to hate gay and transgender people?”

And Eason responded, “No, I’m going to teach them not to associate with them or be that way … If you lay down with dogs you get up with fleas.”

Twitter user @BuyMeASlushie brought Eason’s tweets to MTV attention, writing, “You know, @MTV, for a network that claims to be tolerant and inclusive of the LGBT community, I have to say I’m shocked you’d still associate with ignorant, bigoted trash like David Eason. Are you seriously going to support someone who equates LGBT people to flea-ridden dogs?”

Apparently, the answer to that question is no.

An MTV network spokesperson told Us Weekly, “David Eason’s personal comments do not reflect the views of MTV. With six weeks left of production on Teen Mom 2, effective immediately, we are ending our relationship with him.”

Eason’s wife Jenelle Evans (a titular teenage mother from Teen Mom 2) initially defended Eason, saying he didn’t understand “how Twitter even works” or the power of his voice within media and added that Eason had been friends with people from the LGBT community.
